:: The-way-to-the-centre ::Who? Ian currently spends his days in an office affectionately known as the chicken shed where he designs things and spends time on the web imagining being anyhwere else. Out of hours he can be found living in a two-bedroom semi near Coventry decorated in the 'Scandanavian Style' (i.e. mostly empty). At night, if the sky is clear he is often seen peering through a telescope a faint fuzzy things many light years away. |

:: Typophile is a community for graphical artists/ font designers etc... One of the projects is an attempt to collaboratively design a font by getting a hive mind to decide whether a pixel of the charcter should be white or black. It will interesting to see whether it ends up looking like Arial or Times [an 'average' font], or evolves into something more. I would like to think there are hard-core typophiles battling over individual pixels, trying to get it to conform to their ideals. The process can be animated too, so you can see evolution in action.under pressure There's been about 2 inches of rain fall in the last 48 hours, no downpours, just rain. According to my weather station the pressure this morning was about 960mba and has been dropping steadily. I had hoped it would be dry today - its my last day here and I would have liked to have lunch in the park.:: Thursday, October 30, 2003 :: copying nature If you've ever wanted to be spiderman, then this is currently only way. However, these guys are working on it. I saw a program last year on advanced prosthetics - artificial legs to run faster, hands with 360 degree rotation in the wrist, eyes that can see into UV and IR. Maybe the days of the human upgrades is here. 'It'll be like going to sharper image'.:: Wednesday, October 29, 2003 :: comments I have added a bit to [hopefully] let people add comments. Please do - it would be nice to know if anyone reads this.:: Tuesday, October 28, 2003 :: the third way On the radio the other day, i heard the question (in the context of happiness) 'is the glass half empty or half full?' From my point of of view, the answer would be 'it depends'. If the glass was empty first, then it would be half full, as soon it will be full. Similarly, if the glass was full, then it will be half empty. If the initial fullness of the glass isn't known, then you see the third option: The glass is the wrong size for the amount of liquid in it.:: Monday, October 27, 2003 :: code Currently this is what I write for a living, along with other things::: Wednesday, October 22, 2003 :: recurve Have finally got round to tracking down an archery club in the area. I was previously a member at Meriden, but have now found Coventry AC who shoot in a decent size hall so the targets are at 18m (ish). Things went pretty well considering I haven't shot in 18 months or so, and by the end of the evening I was getting groups of about 8 inches [when I last went regularly at Sheffield University my groups were better than 2 inches] so there is still away to go. I also need to work on my form and release (and almost everything else). I want some ACC's.
